Trace a picture

SummaryPlace a photo on the hoop as a tracing guide, dim it, and draw embroidery on top.

Image puts a picture under the hoop so you can draw on top of it. The picture is a tracing aid. It never sews.

Image is the last tool in the top bar, after Import.

Add a picture

  1. Click Image.
  2. Click Add image.
  3. Choose a PNG, JPEG, or WebP file. GIF and BMP also open.

The picture lands on the hoop. The right panel says Image, and the hint: Images are not sewn. Dim this one and trace it with Draw.

iPhone photos saved as HEIC: export JPEG or PNG first, then add that file.

SVG is not Image. Use Import → Import SVG to get editable paths.

Dim, move, and scale

  1. Select the picture (click it, or click its name on the Image tool row).
  2. Drag Opacity down until the hoop shows through. The field shows a percent (10% to 100%).
  3. Drag the picture to move it. Resize from the handles so the art fits the hoop.

Keep it dim enough that Draw strokes are easy to see.

Trace it

  1. Click Draw.
  2. Click along the lines you want to sew.
  3. Done, then Edit to clean nodes. Close a path if it should fill.

Several paths are normal: one for a stem, one for each leaf. Assign Border and Fill as you would for any drawn object.

Remove the picture

The stitches stay. The photo does not go to the machine.

  1. Select the picture.
  2. Click Remove image.

Or hide it while you check stitches: lower Opacity, or click away and keep working. Removing is only when you no longer need the reference.

Play Simulator to confirm the picture is gone from the sew-out. Only objects in Objects sew.
