Text on a path

SummarySit a word on a Curve, Line, or drawn path.

Follow a path sits a lettering object on a Curve, Line, or drawn path that is already on the hoop. The path is a separate object. The word rides it.

Place the path first, then the word. Lettering itself is in Lettering.

Straight, then a path

A new word starts Straight. The baseline is a line you can still bend with the teal handles.

  1. Click Shape, then Curve. Place the curve across the hoop.
  2. Click Text, then Add text. Type the word.
  3. Under Follow a path, the menu lists Straight and the path’s name (Curve, Line, or the drawn path).

Sit the word on the curve

  1. Open Follow a path. Choose the curve.
  2. Click Start, Center, or End so the word lines up on that path.
  3. Click Flip side if the letters sit on the wrong side. The word turns round and runs back from the other end.
  4. Drag Along the path to slide the word in millimetres.

The letters keep their Letter spacing on the path. A path shorter than the word does not squeeze them: the word runs straight on past the end.

The path still sews as its own object, with its own Border. Hide it in Objects if you only want the letters to show, or turn its Border Off. Hidden objects still sew: Select, move, and lock.

Choose Straight again to leave the path. The word keeps its letters.
